Creating change through opportunity

Helping Single Mothers

The cooperative works with single mothers and women with disabilities. With little education it is difficult for these women to find work.

Made By Hand

Our products are made by hand, beginning with the thread itself, which is made each of the women. All of the thread is dyed with natural organic color.

Supporting Eduaction

By providing steady work for the single mothers, the cooperative is able to ensure that their children receive a good education.

Making a difference in the lives of women

The Challenge

Most of the women in the cooperative have little to no education. Because of this it is very difficult for them to find work. Without work they cannot provide for their children. For this reason, the cooperative strives to provide steady work and higher pay than the women could find elsewhere. The cooperative also believes that the art form of the weaving is important to the local culture and should continue to flourish.

The Solution

Because it is difficult for the women to sell their weaving in stores, the cooperative provides a unique opportunity. Here these very skilled women can bring their weaving and set their own price. Unlike most stores, the cooperative doesn’t make money from the sales, only keep a small percentage to pay for things such as rent and utilities. On the street, most people don’t appreciate the effort that the women make, assuming the products could be synthetic. In the cooperative, however, we require all products to be made by hand and believe they should be sold at a price that is fair to all.
